The Other Side

The Other Side *
This piece follows a betta fish drifting between the realms of death and rebirth — a liminal space where colors bloom even in decay, and silence hums with the possibility of becoming.
The fish, with its flowing fins and half-exposed skeleton, becomes both a spirit and a vessel — a mythic traveler navigating the soft edge between endings and origins. Surrounded by surreal flora and vibrant decay, it is neither fully gone nor fully here, echoing the cyclical nature of existence itself.
I wanted to explore the quiet, almost tender territory where loss transforms, and where beauty emerges from unraveling.
About the Work:
Created as the main visual for a friend’s exhibition, this piece combines watercolor, colored pencil, and digital painting techniques. The mixed media approach allows for both softness and vibrancy, lending depth to the dreamlike world where the betta drifts. The flowing textures and luminous colors aim to mirror the exhibition’s themes of transition, mystery, and quiet resilience.
